Wayne Ross is an outback Australian who settled in Zealand in 1982. His specialty is UNIQUE-ONE OFF, handmade sculpture and bowls made from Ancient New Zealand Swamp Kauri which has an ESTIMATED age of 2 to 5000 years.
He particularly likes to use the stump which has a very beautiful marble like grain that varies between pale brown, almost green and burnt black.
Swamp Kauri, which is found only in the top half of New Zealand, is the OLDEST WORKABLE WOOD IN THE WORLD. It's awesome natural character is amazingly exploited by Wayne into works of art which entice the viewer to touch and stroke and smell them.
People who have purchased Wayne's work value the naturalness and innate spirituality of the pieces. Their feedback to Wayne is that it gives them a feeling of contentment and serenity. Not surprisingly, they note these same qualities in the artist.
Note that Wayne has other examples of his smaller sculptures. If you would like to see examples of these please let us know and we will arrange for digital images to be sent to you
