Hepi Maxwell Maori Greenstone Jade Pendants

Hepi Maxwell is a leading Aotearoa New Zealand carver of pounamu (greenstone). His work carries the toi iho (Maori made) registered mark which his status as a member of Ngatirangiwewehi o Rotorua iwi and as a greenstone carver of note entitles him to use. Hepi describes his work as being not of a traditional nature but based on the gentle sweeping curves of ancient Maori art. Hepi's carving career began after a horrific accident cost him his legs and he was forced to look for an alternative means of earning his living. His pieces are now frequently commissioned for overseas dignitaries and he is also invited to demonstrate his art at various forums throughout the world. A very successful exhibition of his work was, for instance, recently held in Vancouver, Canada.

Hepi says that 'he has come to love working with jade, because by it I am able to care for the ones I love while producing work that gives me great satisfaction and brings joy to the hearts of others'.

There may also be differences in the greenstone as this depends on what Hepi has available at the time. Because Hepi is a noted carver whose work is much sought after he may not always be able to supply your order within the 2 week turnaround period advertised on our policy page. Delays are more likely to occur during New Zealand's tourism season between December and April. We will keep you informed of the anticipated date for delivery if this should be the situation when you order.
