Ruth Cole
Ruth Cole lives in a coastal area west of Auckland. She has won numerous awards for her paintings and has exhibited widely. While she initially painted in an expressionist style she now describes her work as 'painterly realism'. She sees this as being in the spirit of earlier New Zealand landscape painters such as Fristrom, Robert Johnson and Frances Hunt. She finds challenge and fulfillment in capturing the shifts of light and weather across the landscape and in dynamic forms like macrocarpa trees, cliffs and heavy shadows.
